Mara wins Aquaculture Innovation Award!
We are still pinching ourselves that we won... But last week the team went to collect the prestigious Innovation Award from The Crown Estate's Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards.
The ceremony & dinner was hosted by Jo Caulfield at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh on 11th June; the keynote address was given by Dr Aileen McLeod MSP, Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform. The awards celebrate the achievements and success of an industry that is vitally important to Scotland and its rural communities.
Fiona Houston, CEO of Mara Seaweed said,
"It was a wonderful surprise to receive this Innovation Award from amongst such tough competition. This is a true affirmation that we are on the right track, although we have a lot more work to do!"
The Innovation Award recognises Mara Seaweed as an innovative seaweed producer committed to sustainable harvesting and production practices as well as creative product development with their shake-on seaweed flakes.
Fiona Houston explained,
"We are pioneering developments in the seaweed industry, so that we can ensure a regular quality supply of sustainably harvested seaweed, dried at source and processed to Mara’s standards. We are the only producers of seaweed seasonings in the UK and we are incredibly fortunate to have, right on our doorstep, an ideal habitat for seaweed, the beautiful pure waters of the Scottish coastline."
